SABES

Gilbert Spizzo is Chief Physician at the Oncology Day Hospital in Brixen/Bressanone and for research development at the Southyrolean Health Service (SABES). He has participated in the acquisition of funds for oncology research as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. He is the author of more than 95 scientific publications.
He is also PhD Research Trainer and Lecturer in Internal Medicine at the University of Innsbruck; member of the editorial boards "Analytical Cellular Pathology" and "World Journal of Clinica Oncology". He is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Cancer and other journals.

Claudia Mazzarisi is a Biologist of the Azienda Sanitaria dell’Alto Adige. She graduated from the University of Florence with a Biosanitary curriculum. She attended the immunology laboratories of the Meyer Paediatric Hospital and the Careggi Hospital, in Florence. She volunteered at the Transfusion Medicine Centre of the AOU Policlinico Vittorio Emanuele in Catania. She gained competences and experience as Study Coordinator and Data Manager at the UOC Oncologia Medica of AOU Policlinico Vittorio Emanuele in Catania.

As Study Coordinator and Data Manager, she participated in numerous Phase I, II and III experimental and observational profit and non-profit clinical trials.

Viktorija Sokolova is a molecular biologist with experience in the field of cellular biology and oncology. She studied Biology at the University of Sofia, in Bulgaria, where she also obtained a Master degree in Genetics. She obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine at the University of Milan and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at IFOM-Istituto Firc di Oncologia Molecolare and Fondazione Irccs Istituto Nazionale Dei Tumori in Milan with Prof. Marco Pierotti, studying miRNA, their role as post-transcriptional gene regulators and clinical biomarkers.

Emanuela Vattemi is associate medical director of the Division of Medical Oncology at the Hospital of Bolzano. She is chief of the Lung Multidisciplinary Tumor Board and of the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Tumor board.

She studied medicine at the University of Catania and obtained her medical degree with honours in 1998. She specialized in oncology at the University of Verona in 2002, also working for a period at the Department of Molecular Biology of Temple University in Philadelphia, where she acquired knowledge and expertise on basic and translational research in oncology.

Vattemi is a medical oncologist with clinical and experimental competences in thoracic oncology and head and neck cancer. She took part as coinvestigator or principle investigator in several GCP clinical trials on non-small cell lung carcinoma, small cell lung carcinoma, malignant pleural mesothelioma and head and neck cancer.

She authored many scientific publications in clinical oncology and she serves as a reviewer for several peer reviewed journals focused on thoracic oncology.

Guido Mazzolemi is the director of the Pathology Department of the Regional Hospital in Bolzano, and of the Tumour and Mortality Registry of South Tyrol.
He completed his medical studies at the University of Bologna in 1984 and specialized in Pathology in 1988.
Among his professional experiences, he worked as assistant in Pathology at the Regional Hospital of Detmold (Germany) and at the University Hospital S.Orsola in Bologna. He was research fellow in Pathology at the Mc Master University in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada). Mazzoleni was consultant pathologist at the Regional Hospital of Bolzano from 1992 to 1999 and in 1999 became director of the Pathology Department and of the  South Tyrol Tumor Registry.
He also taught Pathology at  the University of Bologna and at the Health Provincial School in Bolzano.
Mazzoleni is an expert pathologist with also  epidemiologic competences. His main fields of interest include breast and gastro-intestinal pathologies, as well as soft tissue tumors.
He authored 117 scientific publication.

Antonio Frena is  an expert in the field of hepatobiliary and general surgery. He is Chief of the Department of General and Pediatric Surgery at Central Hospital of Bolzano, Italy. Frena studied Medicine at the Catholic University of Rome and General Surgery at the University of Bologna (Italy). He also obtained the PhD in Biology of Digestive Tumors at University of Modena and the Master in Oncological Surgery of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Tumors at Paris Sud University (France). He worked at Department of General Surgery of Ronald Reagan Medical Center - UCLA School of Medicine at Los Angeles (USA), at the Service de Chirurgie Digestive of Hopital Beaujon at Clichy - Paris Nord University (France) and at the Allgemeine Chirurgie der Klinikum Mannheim - Heidelbeg University, in Germany.
He authored 291 scientific publications on liver surgical oncology and liver transplantation.

Josef Widmann is a specialist in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery and is currently Chief of the General Surgery Department at Brixen Hospital. He served as Assistant Professor at the "Universitätsklinik für Herz-Thorax - und Gefäßchirurgie Mainz" in Mainz, Germany. He is co-author of two articles in PUBMED. In 2003 he was a guest lecturer at the Virchow-Klinikum Charite´ in Berlin.
Widmann graduated in Medicine at the Leopold Franzens Universität Innsbruck and obtained his specialisation in Vascular Surgery at the University of Verona and his speciality as General Surgeon at the Medical Association in Austria. He was a structured assistant physician at the Department of General Surgery 1 of the Regional Hospital of Bolzano, where he was also a first-level manager. He joined the simple structure of Liver Surgery in 2002 and is also a freelance surgeon at the Marienklinik in Bolzano.

Othmar Bernhart is Chief Physician of the Department of Internal Medicine at Brixen Hospital. He graduated in medicine in Innsbruck. He was a Chief Physician of the department of internal medicine at the hospital in Sterzing and a second lieutenant in the Italian army. He participated in several internships at the Universities of Rome, Turin, Modena, Ferrara, Padua and Munich. He has also participated in working groups with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, he was head of the simple structure of interdisciplinary endoscopy and he was responsible for the screening project of prevention for the colorectal. He is a broad-based internist, specialised in ultrasound of the abdomen and neck vessels, in endoscopy with basic operations (polypectomy, varicose vein ligation) and in biological therapies in the field of rheumatology. 

Yvonne Fauster is a specialist in gynaecology with an additional qualification in palliative medicine and a senior mammary surgeon. She has worked at the gynaecological clinics in Freudenstadt and Schweinfurt. She has knowledge and expertise in GCP and is Investigator for various clinical studies.

Tiziana Tagliaferri is a very qualified researcher in the field of gynaecology/oncology thanks to her clinical experience,  Ph.D and teaching at the Claudiana Undergraduate Infirmary Faculty in Bolzano.
